Better Health Begins Here: The Obosi Medical Outreach Success Story

Obosi Medical Outreach and Health Insurance Initiative Date: August 24, 2024 Host: Idemili Association, Washington DC Metropolitan Area Venue: Obosi Town Hall

The Idemili Association, Washington DC Metropolitan Area, successfully organized a Medical Outreach and Health Insurance Enrollment Initiative for the people of Obosi on August 24, 2024, at the Obosi Town Hall. This impactful program was made possible through the generous support of Obosi-based sponsors: Abel Ekpunobi, Charles Obiekwe, Eddy Ndubuisi, Azubuike Obiajulu, Polycarp Obiekwe, Kene Mortanya, Robert Ubanwa, and Okechukwu Ibezue.

A central achievement of the outreach was providing health insurance coverage to 240 indigent Obosi residents through the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA). This coverage enables beneficiaries to access both primary and secondary healthcare services, including essential medications, at designated hospitals across Anambra State.

Before the formal launch, a comprehensive screening exercise was conducted on June 8 and 9, 2024, during which 240 eligible individuals were identified and enrolled into the scheme. The initiative was strategically designed to maximize the number of beneficiaries within the available funding for a one-year coverage period, while also laying the groundwork for sustained support in subsequent years—particularly for the most vulnerable individuals and families.

The Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme, established in 2016, aims to provide accessible and affordable healthcare to all residents of the state. Under the scheme, enrollees contribute an annual premium of ₦12,000, with the state government subsidizing the remaining cost of care. Additional information about the program is available on the official ASHIA website.

The distribution of health insurance identification cards took place during a well-attended community event on August 24, 2024. The cards were formally presented to beneficiaries by representatives of the Anambra State Ministry of Health alongside Obosi community leaders, marking a significant milestone in expanding healthcare access within the community.

This initiative reflects the continued commitment of the Idemili Association to improving the welfare and health outcomes of Obosi residents through collaborative and sustainable interventions.
